Civil society members, community elders, and residents have praised Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tanveer Khan Khattak for his exceptional service and transformative initiatives in Tank, one of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s most underdeveloped and conflict-affected districts.
Local figures, including Umer Khan of Gul Imam, Asmatullah Gomal, Habibullah Mulazai, and Zubair of Ranwal, described DC Tanveer Khan as a “people-friendly administrator” whose projects have delivered tangible relief to the citizens of Tank.
Chief among his efforts is the resolution of the district’s long-standing drinking water shortage. For the first time in Tank’s history, residents now have access to clean drinking water through the installation and solarization of multiple tube wells across neighborhoods, the laying of new pipelines, and the construction of a major 120,000-gallon water storage reservoir.
Under his direction, irregularities in the Public Health Engineering Department were investigated thoroughly, leading to the suspension of negligent officials by the provincial government.
In healthcare, DC Tanveer Khan organized free medical camps across all union councils, offering checkups, medicines, and mobility support. More than 300 wheelchairs were distributed to differently-abled individuals and widows. He also ensured timely delivery of relief goods to families affected by recent floods.
Infrastructure improvements marked another significant aspect of his tenure. The long-awaited Tank City Road project, spanning two kilometers, was completed under his supervision, reducing traffic congestion. Other major roads, including Sabir Baba–Langerbai Road and Umar Adda–Sabir Baba Road, were also constructed or rehabilitated, bringing relief to daily commuters.
DC Tanveer Khan led a high-profile anti-encroachment drive, reclaiming millions of rupees worth of state land from land mafias despite pressure from influential groups. Markets such as Tang Bazar and Daman Chowk were cleared, significantly improving traffic flow and public access.
In education, multiple schools in Tank city and surrounding areas were solarized, ensuring a more conducive learning environment. Water facilities and essential equipment were provided to students, while scholarships were awarded to position holders at Gomal University’s Tank Campus.
The DC also promoted sports and cultural engagement through events including the Tank Festival, traditional horse-riding shows, and local tournaments. Sports equipment was distributed to clubs to encourage youth participation.
Polio vaccination campaigns successfully covered thousands of children, while community jirgas and consultative meetings with elders strengthened ties between the administration and citizens.
Civil society, parents, teachers, and local communities hailed DC Tanveer Khan’s tenure as a “turning point” in Tank’s governance. They credited him with delivering clean water, improved healthcare, better roads, enhanced education, law enforcement against encroachers, and ensuring that government resources reached citizens fairly and efficiently.
