Curfew imposed in 24 areas of Bajaur for targeted operation

BAJAUR – The district administration of Bajaur has imposed a six-day curfew in 24 areas of Mamund tehsil to facilitate a targeted security operation against militants. The move comes with the approval of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department.

According to an official notification, the curfew began on 16 August at 5 p.m. and will remain in place until 21 August at 5 p.m. During this period, residents are strictly prohibited from leaving their homes or moving about in public spaces. Authorities warned that anyone violating the restrictions will be held responsible for any consequences.

The areas under curfew include Malangi, Suparai, Dawagai, Mena Sulaiman Khel, Khwar Chuki, Chamyar Jor, Zagai, Gat, Agra, Ghandai, Zari, Bakhtar, Mula Kalay, Bakro, Gowai, Chamyalon, Har Kalan, Bar Kalan, Ghanam Shah, Chotra, Damadola, Sultan Beg, Inam Khwar, and Oranga. These localities were identified based on intelligence reports suggesting the presence of militant hideouts.

Security officials explained that the curfew is necessary to allow law enforcement and military units to carry out operations without civilian interference. Residents were advised to stock essential supplies ahead of the restrictions and to remain indoors until the curfew is lifted.

The imposition of the curfew has raised concerns among locals, who fear shortages of food and medicine during the six-day lockdown. However, the administration assured that arrangements are being made to ensure emergency medical services remain available. Officials stressed that the curfew is temporary and aimed at restoring peace and security in Bajaur.

Observers note that such operations highlight ongoing challenges in fully stabilizing areas previously affected by militancy. Authorities urged residents to cooperate with security forces, emphasizing that the success of the operation depends on public support and compliance with the imposed restrictions.
