Peshawar Safe City Project

PESHAWAR – Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi officially inaugurated the Peshawar Safe City project today, fulfilling a vision to modernize urban surveillance and counter rising security challenges.

The project, which remained in limbo for over 15 years, is now operational under the directive of the chief minister to ensure the safety of citizens and state infrastructure.

Modern Tech for a Safer Peshawar

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hamid shared technical details during the ceremony, highlighting that the Peshawar Safe City project currently features:

  • 750 high-tech cameras installed across 130 key locations.
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration for real-time threat detection.
  • Automated E-Challan systems to regulate traffic and monitor violations.
  • Expansion Plans: Work is already underway for similar projects in D.I. Khan, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat.

“This is a day of pride for us,” IGP Hamid stated. “We plan to scale the Safe City initiative across the entire province within the next two years. In the coming days, these projects will prove highly beneficial for the public.”

CM Afridi Addresses Regional Security and Diplomacy

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi emphasized that the Peshawar Safe City project is a crucial response to the current global and domestic security climate. Reflecting on recent incidents in Balochistan and Islamabad, the CM expressed deep regret over the loss of life and stressed the need for proactive measures.

Addressing the audience, CM Sohail Afridi stated:

“The dream of the PTI founder for a Safe City has been fulfilled today. Work on Safe City projects in other districts is also underway. Given the current global and national circumstances, security remains on high alert everywhere.”

The Chief Minister also touched upon his previous warnings to federal authorities regarding regional stability.

“When I last met with federal representatives, I told them that if interests do not change, conditions will deteriorate further,” Afridi remarked. “I had suggested forming a jirga, but action was initiated before that could happen. However, protecting every inch of Pakistan is our duty, and we will do it. Pakistan remains ready at all times to deal with any power.”

Regarding international relations and the “Board of Peace” with Iran, the Chief Minister noted that the government must take both the public and Parliament into confidence.
