Land use authority demolishes illegal housing projects in Peshawar

PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a province-wide crackdown on illegal housing projects, targeting encroachments that threaten public spaces, schools, and hospitals.

At a governance review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah, deputy commissioners were instructed to take immediate action against illegal construction and secure reclaimed land through proper fencing. Shahab Ali Shah emphasized that all recovered sites must be protected to prevent re-encroachment.

Demolition operations are already underway in Peshawar, Swat, Buner, and Abbottabad, where dozens of unauthorized structures were identified. Officials confirmed that the Peshawar Development Authority has also initiated a comprehensive urban uplift plan, including upgrades to Ring Road and Regi Model Town, aimed at restoring urban order.

Shahab Ali Shah further directed district administrations to monitor food prices and commodity stocks, especially sugar, flour, and tomatoes, to curb inflation and protect residents. “Good governance relies on transparent, timely action against illegal practices,” he said.
