Chief Secretary leads major push for Peshawar model city project

PESHAWAR – The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government formed a dedicated task force to implement the Peshawar model city project under the directives of Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah chaired the first meeting, which included Provincial Minister Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Asif Khan, CM’s Focal Person Arbab Asim Khan, Secretary Finance, Commissioner Peshawar Division, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, and heads of PDA, WSSP, and other relevant authorities.

The task force decided to enhance coordination among all departments working on sanitation, traffic flow, infrastructure, and urban beautification. Officials briefed the forum on the progress of ongoing projects, including Hayatabad Trail, where 72% of the jogging and cycling track has been completed. The chief secretary emphasized the need for sustainability planning after project completion.

The task force approved restructuring the Peshawar Development Authority to strengthen its capacity. DG PDA informed the meeting that authorities will launch the beautification plan this month, aiming to prepare a comprehensive feasibility report in three months to support the Peshawar model city project.

The meeting reviewed the new bus terminal construction and committed to holding weekly progress reviews. The chief secretary instructed departments to strictly implement a tracking sheet system to ensure timely completion. WSSP officials presented updates on sanitation, water supply, drainage, road sweeping, and waste collection. They confirmed action against illegal water connections and shared plans to modernize operations. WSSP also introduced a performance evaluation system for its workforce.

Officials also briefed the meeting on the performance of TMAs. The chief secretary directed TMAs to design a detailed plan for cleanliness and optimal resource use. The task force approved a citywide cleanliness campaign starting 15 April.
