Cheshma right bank canal project spearheads $1.9bn development plan in KP

Cheshma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) project has gained momentum as Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, held an important meeting with a World Bank delegation on at the Pakhtunkhwa House, Islamabad. The discussion revolved around the CRBC project and other ongoing development initiatives worth $1.9bn.  

The World Bank delegation, led by Martin Raiser, Vice President for South Asia, expressed a keen interest in collaborating on the CRBC project, which the Chief Minister emphasized as critical for ensuring food security in the province. MNA Faisal Amin Gandapur, Additional Chief Secretary Planning Ikram Ullah Khan, and other senior officials also attended the meeting to review World Bank-supported projects across various sectors, including health, communication, tourism, hydropower, water resources, and rural development.  

During the meeting, the cheshma right bank canal project was identified as a priority initiative due to its importance in boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring sustainable food security. Ali Amin Gandapur called the project a cornerstone of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s development agenda and a vital initiative for poverty alleviation, social protection, and human resource development.  

The Chief Minister also discussed the Peshawar-D.I. Khan Motorway project as a transformative infrastructure initiative capable of driving regional and national economic growth. He added that both the CRBC and motorway projects require robust public-private partnerships for timely implementation and long-term sustainability.  

The World Bank delegation shared details of its Country Partnership Framework for Pakistan and commended the provincial government’s efforts in executing development projects, particularly the cheshma right bank canal. They pledged continued cooperation to overcome implementation challenges and appreciated the provincial government’s commitment to public welfare initiatives.  

Ali Amin Gandapur assured the delegation of his government’s full support in removing all obstacles to development projects, especially the cheshma right bank canal. He reiterated his commitment to initiatives that have far-reaching benefits for economic and social progress in the region.  

“By prioritizing the CRBC project,” Gandapur said, “the provincial government is taking concrete steps to secure food security, foster economic stability, and reinforce its commitment to the welfare of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s people.”
