Imran Khan’s Immediate Release Unlikely Despite Bail in Multiple Cases

Aleema Khan approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) and filed a contempt petition against the Adiala Jail superintendent and several senior officials. She said the jail administration blocked her meeting with former prime minister Imran Khan despite a court order that allowed twice-weekly visits.

She said the Islamabad High Court had restored Imran Khan’s meeting schedule on March 24. She added that officials ignored the directive and refused to allow the meeting. She said the jail administration acted in clear defiance of the order.

KP CM held overnight sit-in outside jail

Her petition came soon after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi held an overnight sit-in outside Adiala Jail. Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmakers joined him. They launched the protest after authorities stopped the chief minister from meeting Imran Khan for the eighth time on Thursday.

Imran Khan’s sisters, including Aleema Khan, had also held similar sit-ins in the past. They staged these protests outside the prison whenever officials blocked their access. PTI ended its latest protest on Friday morning. The chief minister then said he would approach the Islamabad High Court as well. Soon after his statement, Aleema Khan filed her contempt petition.

She named four officials as respondents. They include Adiala Jail Superintendent Abdul Ghafoor Anjum, Saddar Baironi Station House Officer Raja Azaaz Azeem, Federal Interior Secretary Captain (retired) Muhammad Khurram Agha and Punjab Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin.

Khan said she remained deeply concerned about Imran Khan’s welfare, legal rights and treatment in custody. She said authorities blocked access to his family, his lawyers and his colleagues on several occasions. She added that the court had issued clear directions, yet officials ignored them each time.

She said the superintendent’s continued refusal and what she called political victimisation forced Imran Khan and PTI members to file several petitions. These petitions aimed to enforce their basic right to meetings.

She asked the Islamabad High Court to start contempt proceedings. She said the respondents repeatedly ignored court orders and must face accountability.
