The Awami National Party (ANP) Sindh on 25 January organized a public gathering in Karachi. This event commemorated the 38th death anniversary of Bacha Khan and the 20th anniversary of Khan Abdul Wali Khan.During the rally, ANP Central President Aimal Wali Khan delivered a powerful speech. Specifically, he focused on the ongoing military operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the suffering of the Pashtun people.

Opposition to Military Operations

Aimal Wali Khan categorically rejected military actions and the resulting displacement of civilians in Tirah Valley. Furthermore, he identified the Tirah Operation as the most critical issue facing the province today. He noted that while the region suffers, the rest of the country remains silent.

Consequently, he condemned the “forced eviction” of families under the guise of security. In addition, he highlighted that elderly people and children are currently migrating during harsh snowfall. He criticized the federal government for being “asleep” during this crisis. Meanwhile, he claimed the provincial government remains distracted by other political activities.

The Struggle for Pashtun Rights

Moreover, the Senator expressed deep frustration over the state’s narrative regarding the Pashtun identity. He argued that the state frequently links Pashtuns to extremist groups like the TTP. However, he clarified that the Pashtun nation is peaceful and seeks a democratic Pakistan.

Accordingly, he called for an end to the “Good and Bad Taliban” policy. He stated that this distinction has only caused national damage. Therefore, he demanded full transparency regarding these militant groups and their supporters. He also questioned international human rights bodies for their silence on these alleged violations.

Foreign Policy and the Gaza Committee

Regarding international affairs, the ANP leader sought clarity on Pakistan’s role in the Gaza Peace Committee. He insisted that the Prime Minister must brief the Parliament on this matter. Specifically, he wants to know the benefits and risks of Pakistan’s participation. He maintained that every decision must reflect the true wishes of the Palestinian people. Nevertheless, he reminded the audience that his first priority remains the Pashtun nation and Pakistan.

Addressing Karachi’s Economic Crisis

Finally, Khan turned his attention to the local issues in Karachi. He described the city as the nation’s economic backbone. Unfortunately, he lamented that corruption and lawlessness have ruined its potential. He cited the “Gul Plaza” incidents as proof of a failing system.

To resolve this, he suggested that the solution is not creating new provinces. Instead, the government should focus on:

  • Substantial Constitutional Reforms
  • Establishing a Strong Local Government
  • Ensuring Transparent Governance
