PESHAWAR: Afghan refugee families in Akora Khattak and Swat are facing eviction as authorities enforce strict measures to clear camps and rental properties. In a joint operation, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and police cut electricity to refugee camps to prepare the grounds for demolition.
On Friday, WAPDA and police teams removed the main electricity line and disconnected all transformers in the Salima Afghan refugee camp in Akora Khattak. Meanwhile, police deployed in large numbers to prevent any untoward incidents.
As a result, dozens of Afghan families began packing their belongings and voluntarily returning to Afghanistan. Officials emphasized that the two-day deadline remains for all residents to vacate the camps. On Monday, bulldozers will level all refugee camp grounds. Authorities warned that any remaining residents would face enforced removal.

The operation affected multiple camps, including the Lalima camp, where WAPDA and police removed transformers. Residents received advance notice, and many cooperated voluntarily. Authorities coordinated the operation to ensure safety and avoid conflicts.
Swat authorities enforce property clearance
In Swat, the district administration ordered Afghan refugees to vacate homes, shops, and rented land. Deputy Commissioner Salim Jan instructed assistant commissioners and local police officers to ensure full compliance.
Additionally, public notices in Babozai and Kabal tehsils informed property owners to reclaim their properties immediately. Officials warned that property owners who fail to comply would face strict legal action under existing laws.

The administration stated that these measures aim to improve law and order while fulfilling legal requirements. Deputy Commissioner Salim Jan clarified that the government will not tolerate any violation. “We will take strict action against those who fail to comply with instructions,” he said.
Authorities highlighted that these steps form part of a coordinated effort to maintain security and ensure smooth evacuation and clearance of camps.
